Wow, I think my perfectly normal character would be......
ReplyDeleteRoran Stronghammer. He has no magic in a magician's world, and he just adapts so well. Also his dedication to Katrina.... :)
I just love him so much, and I would want to meet him out of a LOT of other characters..
OMG! I never thought I'd meet (er, talk to) someone who loves Roran just as much as I do! I think he'd definitely be my pick! :D
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I think my favourite normal character would be Lyra Belacqua from His Dark Materials (I know she can inexplicably read the compass, but I don't generally find that to be "magic") - she's in this extraordinary world with so many forces working around her, but she makes it through based on cunning and intelligence.
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't count though, current favourite would be Bria Sandoval from Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard - she's this strong female character who manages to balance being brave and decisive with scared, lost and hurting.
Great normal characters, Ashley! :D Thanks for entering! :D
ReplyDeleteHahahaha I love Effie! <3 x) I think she was one of my favourite parts of the Hunger Games movie, if not the books!
ReplyDeleteAnd oh my gosh, YAY SIERRA! I just went back to your super-sweet review of Ordinary Magic and it sounds absolutely adorable, so thanks a million for a chance to win it! :) If you asked me who my fave ordinary character was, I don't know who I would've picked, but now that you mentioned Watson, I can't get him out of my head! I love Jude Law in the movies -- although RDJr as Sherlock is even better! :')
I'm glad you're a part of this tour, Sierra! Thanks so much! :) <3
That's a hard one and actully I'm not sure I have a answer for you. I don't know if I've read a book with an ordinary character in an extraordinary world. That's probably not true but I can't think of one! ;(
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this character is completely ordinary, but I absolutely loved Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter series. I think he should have gotten more credit than he did.
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope that 'the odds will be in my favor'! (oh and never and I mean NEVER refrain from saying HG quotes! They make my day!) hhhmm ordinary character... AHAA! *light bulb* Henry York! He is ordinary until he go's through a cupboard into a different world... But anyway.... N.D.Wilson is AWESOME!!!!!! :):):)
ReplyDeleteWhat about Katniss? She does all of that without any powers that a human doesn't have. Wow. Blows the mind, right?
ReplyDeleteI just finished Bitterblue, so I think I'll have to say Bitterblue is my current favorite Ordinary (but wonderful) character in a book full of extraordinary people.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because I have a weakness for underdogs, but I adore Argus Filch in the Harry Potter series. He's such a miserable old prune, and I feel so sorry for his Squibness! I can't say that I would behave much better if I had to live in a world where everyone was magical but me.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite normal character would have to be Simon from the Mortal Instruments. Well, he's not normal anymore... but when he was just an average guy, he made the best side kick. Still does! :)
ReplyDeleteOh man, this is a hard one. Even if they're underpowered, I don't think of characters I love as "ordinary?" Ummmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI loved Lady Celia, in Elizabeth Moon's Hunting Party. She's an old lady whose training has all be about how to be a noblewoman. But she's smart, and stubborn, and when murderers kidnap her idiot nephew, the learns how to turn all her skills to her advantage in the rescue party. And she's awesome.
Matt from The Vampire Diaries he was such a good friend and stuck it out with his friends through all the vampire drama!
ReplyDeleteOscar, one of Nat Ng's best friends in Cat Girl's Day Off by Kimberly Pauley.
ReplyDeleteI'm picking a picture book for this example because it's PERFECT. :D It's a really sweet story called "Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed" She is totally ordinary and very sweet. A favorite picture book of mine.
ReplyDeleteOff the top of my head I would say Ethan from Beautiful Creatures series.
ReplyDeleteI like Cinder from Cinder because she has obstacles (being a cyborg and having a step-mom who doesn't like her) but she doesn't let them stop her from doing what she wants and being happy.
ReplyDeletemy favorite ordinary character? I love Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. does that count?!
ReplyDeleteCallum from Callum and Harper. I guess his personality makes him so loveable and one of my favorite protagonists.
ReplyDeletei just finished endure so i think i'm gonna go with issie from the need series. she was surrounded by pixies and weres and was the only ordinary girl in her group of friends. plus i totally love her. she'd make an awesome bff : )
ReplyDeleteMy Ordinary character is Harry Potter I answer good? :D But this:D Harry Potter is my all childhood
ReplyDeletejane eyre....u just cannot get more ordinary than poor jane!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice - it's a beautiful story and she is an amazing woman!
